Contaminants

Heavy Metals

Consumer safety is paramount in the cannabis industry. One of the critical aspects of safety assurance is the detection and elimination of heavy metal contaminants in cannabis products. Our heavy metal contaminant testing service is designed to help you meet regulatory requirements and ensure the safety and purity of your cannabis products.

Why is heavy metal testing important in the cannabis industry? These metals, such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury, can be present in soil, water, and fertilizers. When these contaminants find their way into cannabis plants, they pose serious health risks to consumers. The cannabis industry is subject to strict regulations, and compliance with safety standards is essential to protect both consumers and your brand’s reputation.

Our Heavy Metals Testing Service

Notwithstanding, our commitment to accuracy, precision and quality data is at the core of our heavy metal contaminant testing. Using the Inductively-Coupled Plasma, Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technology, we are empowered to detect heavy metals at low levels to ensure the safety of your products. We test for the four heavy metals required by Health Canada (Pb, Hg, Cd, and As) according to the USP <232> and <233> method and limits. Data is reported in parts per million (ppm) on your CoA alongside the pharmacopeial reporting limits for permissible daily exposure.

Microbiological

At BioScisionLabs, we believe that every step in the cannabis production process should prioritize consumer safety and product quality. Microbiological contaminants can pose significant risks to both consumers and the cannabis industry as a whole. Microbiology contaminants in cannabis can include harmful bacteria, molds, yeast, and other microorganisms. These contaminants can proliferate during cultivation, processing, and storage, potentially leading to health issues for consumers. Regulatory agencies mandate strict testing for microbiological contaminants to protect consumers and the industry.

Our Microbiological Contaminants Testing Service

Our advanced laboratory is equipped with all of the necessary biological safety equipment and sterile environs, enabling us to detect and enumerate microbiological contaminants with great confidence. We offer an AOAC validated platform of conventional plating with selective and differential media that is equivalent to the United States and European Pharmacopeial methodology for food products, pharmaceuticals and materials of botanical origin. Our testing platform supports enumeration of Total Aerobic Microbes (TAMC), Total Yeasts and Molds (TYMC) as well as Bile Tolerant Gram-Negative Bacteria (BTGN) and the presence or absence of the specified microbes: E. coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas and Staph. aureus. In addition, and to aid in confirmation, any detection of those specified organisms by plating is ran against a panel of genetic markers by quantitative PCR to further bolster confidence and mitigate false positives.

Results are reported in colony forming units per gram (CFU/g) for enumeration and presence/absence in the specified sample quantity. Data appears on the CoA aside your quality departments specifications and pharmacopeial reference. Please consult with your quality department for these specifications so we can customize your CoA!

Minimum Sample Quantity: 30g (EP 5.1.8), 15g (USP <2023>), or 5g (USP <1111> or EP 5.1.4)
Average Turn Around Time:

Price:
$155.00 CAD (Enumeration) and $60.00 CAD (per each objectionable organism)
